How to use the mean calculator
This mean calculator finds the arithmetic mean (average) of any set of numbers you provide. Enter your numbers separated by commas in the input field—integers, decimals, and negative numbers are all accepted. Then click "Calculate mean" to see the result. Along with the mean, the tool displays the sum, count, minimum value, and maximum value, plus the formula that was applied (Mean = Sum ÷ Count).
The arithmetic mean is the most commonly used measure of central tendency. It is calculated by adding all values and dividing by the number of values: for example, the mean of 10, 20, 30 is (10 + 20 + 30) ÷ 3 = 20. Because every value contributes equally, the mean is sensitive to outliers— one very large or very small number can pull the average far from the bulk of the data. If your data is heavily skewed or contains outliers, the median may give a better sense of the "typical" value. For normally distributed data, however, the mean is the preferred summary.
The calculator runs entirely in your browser. There is no sign-up, no download, and no delay. It is designed to be mobile-friendly: the two-column layout stacks on small screens, the text area is resizable, and the result appears next to your input. Use it for homework, data analysis, grading, budgeting, or any situation where you need a quick average.
